I could not find the contents page for the front cover I analysed. So I decided to analyse Vibe to get a different view on how different music genres are represented in music magazines.
The masthead is a big 'V' which is short for the name of the magazine which is Vibe, it is abbreviated to attract the target audience of hip hop because they are stereotyped to be youthful and mainstream. The bad thing about it is the colour choice, which in my opinion is poor, because it is only a bit of a darker shade of grey than the background. The main image is of Kanye West, this is to attract the target audience because he is such an iconic figure for hip hop music that a wide range of people would want to purchase this magazine. He has a direct gaze to intrigue the audience. It dominates the page and the simplicity of the layout brings attention to the main image. There is a girl's arm across his chest and is grabbing a symbol of his heart, this could be to highlight that women think he's attractive and this will attract the mainstream audience to follow this. Kanye West is dressed very smartly and this relates to the message of the magazine because the colours and the mise en scene add to a very classy look which is being portrayed in this particular issue, this could be to attract a wider range for the audience, because the particular stereotyped audience is quite young people and this classy look could attract the older generation. This has quite a simplistic lay out unlike a lot of other contents pages I looked at, this is to bring more attention to Kanye West because he is the main thing that will sell this issue.
