Masthead for magazine

First of all, I looked at some examples of grime magazine mastheads to have an understanding of a rough idea of my own personal masthead. From looking at these I have gathered that the common trend of these is that the masthead is in slang, this is to engage the reader because it is the type of language that people who listen to grime use and will create audience identification. So for my magazine this is what I will take into consideration when deciding my masthead and language throughout my magazine.

After looking at these, I came up with three possible mastheads for my magazine;

1. Sound 

2. Streetz 

3. UKG 

Sound

I chose this because it is a slang word used for when something is good, it is also a word commonly used by the audience of grime music so will relate to them well, another good thing about it that the word 'sound' is also related with music so is a good fit for the title in two different ways. The negative thing about this are that it's not directly related to grime.

Streetz

I chose this as one of my options because it is a word associated with grime, this is because the grime artists are stereotyped to have grown up on the streets, it also is spelt with a 'z' to make it look cool and is slang so it will attract the grime audience. The negative things about it is that I don't personally like it because it seems a bit cheesy and if it seems cheesy to me then it will to people who listen to grime music because the stereotyped audience is people roughly my age or older.

UKG

UKG is the abbreviation of United Kingdom Grime, I got this idea from the magazine above 'rwd', it is a good choice because it has the word grime in the title so is very relatable. Also, the fact that it is abbreviated could attract the grime audience because it is also slang. The bad things about this is that it would be hard to make it as my masthead on my magazine because it is very short and the letters seem quite hard to make a good font with that will appeal to the grime audience.

After weighing up my options, I have decided to go with the masthead UKG, this is because although it seems hard to chose a font I think that I will be able to make it work as in my opinion this is the best option because it is the most relatable to grime and is in slang, also in my opinion it is quite a catchy masthead. I am not sure whether or not it will be in capitals or not, it depends on how it looks with the font I decide.
